The $20 million Bechtler museum is considered by many to be the crown jewel in the Queen City cultural campus coming to life on South Tryon Street. It opens January 2, with 109 works from Andreas Bechtler’s 1,400-piece collection on display. Other than a brief exhibit in Zurich in 1981, Bechtler’s art collection has never been seen by the public. His parents started the art collection. Andreas Bechtler owns half of it, and his sister, who lives in Switzerland, has the other half.
